Credit for previous tertiary study from an international institution may be applied to a degree at the University of Otago.
If you are an international student, a credit assessment will take place as part of your application. Your original or certified transcript of your academic record (required in the application process) is used to assess this.
The transcript should also include the key to your grades. Other information, such as course prescriptions, textbook lists, and course outlines, will also help with organising your transfer credit.
If some or all of your previous study was not completed in English, you may be required to submit evidence of your English language level to ensure that it meets the standard entry requirements of the University.
- There are a range of English language assessments accepted for both domestic and international applicants, although some programmes have higher or more specific criteria.
- Undergraduate applicants who have completed at least one year of successful degree-level study and whose country is included in our list of countries/territories recognised by UKECCTIS or CEP may not need to provide further evidence of English language skill level.
- Postgraduate applicants that have completed their undergraduate degree OR a completed postgraduate qualification requiring at least one year of full-time study and whose country or territory is listed on our website may also not require further evidence of English language level.
- Successful degree-level study at a New Zealand university as part of an overseas qualification may be considered sufficient evidence of English language proficiency and will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Domestic students will need to make a specific application to transfer credit from previous international study.
