To be considered for the Otago Global Student Exchange Programme, you must:
- Have completed at least one semester of full-time study at Otago before applying
- Ideally have and maintain a minimum B average grade (cumulative GPA of 5.0)
- Students with a lower GPA may be considered on a case-by-case basis
- Be enrolled full-time at Otago while on exchange
- Receive academic approval to go on exchange
- Enrol in a full-time, paper-based workload at the host institution
Otago students must apply through the Otago Global Student Exchange Programme and can only be nominated to a host institution after successfully completing the Otago application process. Students cannot apply directly to partner universities without nomination from Otago.
Programme restrictions
Papers taken overseas cannot be credited towards clinical and professional programmes (including Medicine, Dentistry, Psychiatry, Physiotherapy, and Pharmacy). You may still be able to go on exchange by enrolling in a different Otago degree for the duration.
Graduate exchange may be possible, depending on your programme. This is for coursework options only; dissertations and theses cannot be completed on exchange.
Some exchange destinations or programmes may have additional eligibility requirements, such as subject prerequisites, year-of-study limits, or language proficiency. Students should review individual exchange partner information before applying.
