Exchange students are nominated by the University of Otago's exchange partners. If you wish to come to the University as an exchange student, your first point of contact should be the exchange/study abroad office at your home institution to find out about requirements and eligibility.

Exchange study takes place at the University’s Dunedin campus, offering students the opportunity to experience academic life in New Zealand’s oldest university.

Exchange opportunities are available at both undergraduate and graduate (coursework) level. Exchange students are normally expected to have achieved a minimum ‘B’ average (approximately 70%). While many Otago programmes are available to exchange students, some areas have limited capacity or specific professional requirements.

Exchange students are required to meet the University of Otago’s English language requirements for international students. The Otago English Language Proficiency Statement form is accepted when completed by the Exchange/Study Abroad office at the student’s home institution.

Exchange study can be undertaken for a flexible period, from a minimum of Summer School up to a maximum of two semesters plus Summer School.
