The University of Otago offers a range of taught postgraduate programmes, including postgraduate certificates and postgraduate diplomas.
Postgraduate certificates and postgraduate diplomas can be studied without extensive knowledge or experience in a particular subject area; however, this is either recommended or a requirement in order to progress with study in some disciplines.
Both postgraduate certificates and postgraduate diplomas normally require a minimum qualification of a completed bachelor’s degree (or equivalent). Many also offer a distance-learning option or are only available to study via distance. Postgraduate certificates and postgraduate diplomas are comprised of papers (or other work) at 400-level or above.
Postgraduate certificates generally comprise two papers (totalling 60 points), which can be taken in one semester or split across two semesters, depending on the student’s preference.
Postgraduate diplomas can be studied as a continuation of a postgraduate certificate, or independently, and are generally comprised of four papers (totalling 120 points).
Each has its own admission and subject requirements and is offered in many subject areas.
