Requests for deferral will be considered only on the basis of unforeseen serious medical grounds or other exceptional circumstances that arise after the application deadline. For deferral to be approved, evidence must be provided showing that the applicant will be able to resume study the following year.

Who is this available to

Students who have applied for one or more of the Health Sciences Undergraduate Professional Programmes (HSUPP) but are unable to commence their studies in the upcoming academic year. 

How do I defer an offer of place for an Health Sciences Professional Programme

To request a deferral:

  1. Open the Health Sciences Professional Programmes Deferral form (PDF 100KB).
  2. Fill in all relevant details.
  3. Email the completed form to: health-sciences@otago.ac.nz

Deferrals will only be granted for a maximum period of one academic year.

How much does it cost

This service is normally free of charge, but there may be other associated costs if you are deferring after the deadline for withdrawing from papers.
