Justice of the Peace (JP) services are available on campus. JPs can witness signatures, certify documents, and, in some cases, carry out judicial duties such as presiding over hearings and trials, and issuing search warrants and summons.

A Justice of the Peace (JP) is a trusted member of the community appointed by the Governor-General. JPs are people of good standing, respected for their character, integrity, and judgement. Their work is an unpaid public service and is not connected with their employment.

JP services on the Dunedin campus

There is a JP service located at the AskOtago Central Hub, in the Central Library on the Dunedin campus every Wednesday between 9:00am and 3:00pm:

JP services off campus and at other locations

If you are not on campus, you can generate a list of JPs in New Zealand by location, online. Some may also offer a remote service.

In Dunedin, the Royal Federation of New Zealand Justices’ Associations also provides community JP services at various locations. Refer to the Dunedin community JP service desk list for times and locations.
