International students who are granted New Zealand residency or citizenship while enrolled may be eligible to pay domestic fees for the current and subsequent years, depending on the date of the change to their status.

They will need to present an original passport along with a notification of their electronic visa (eVisa) confirmation, to confirm their change of residential status.

To be considered for a refund of fees to the equivalent domestic fee level, the date of award of the residence visa (as printed on the eVisa approval letter) must be prior to:

  • 17 January 2024 for Summer School papers
  • 15 March 2024 for semester 1 papers
  • 22 March 2024 for full-year papers
  • 2 August 2024 for semester 2 papers
  • 22 March 2024 for Foundation Studies Intake — February
  • 19 July 2024 for Foundation Studies Intake — June
  • 17 November 2024 for Foundation Studies Intake — October

If their status changes after these dates, they will continue to pay the international tuition rate for the duration of the paper/s they are currently enrolled in.

New and current international students with pending New Zealand residency are advised to seek advice from the University about their situation:

If a new international student with an active application in eVision needs further advice, escalate to International Admissions in CRSM.

If any other international student needs advice, explain the information above. Escalate to Student Finance if required.

Once a change of residency status has been processed, the student only needs to enter their bank account details in eVision for the credit to be refunded.

If the student has an international bank account, they will need to contact Student Finance directly as the Review my bank details section in eVision only accommodates NZ bank account numbers.
