The Dental Hospital at the Faculty of Dentistry offers services to patients across a number of clinics in a state-of-the-art teaching hospital.
Appointments can be made via referral from a private dentist or other body, or by contacting the Faculty of Dentistry directly to check what may be available for your specific issue. In many cases, this may involve speaking to a private dentist first or being placed on a waiting list.
Treatment may be provided by a trained student, or a specialist staff member.
Urgent dental issues may be treated at the Faculty of Dentistry. "Urgent" is defined as "uncontrollable pain and/or uncontrollable bleeding". Contact the Faculty of Dentistry as soon as possible from 8:30am to check if an appointment is available. Appointments are required for treatment.
All patients requiring urgent care are assessed first to determine the level of urgency and if they fit the "urgent" criteria.
If it is outside the hours of 8:30am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday, and your issue constitutes an emergency, contact the Hospital Emergency Department for advice.
Anyone having trouble breathing or experiencing chest pains should call 111 immediately.
There are no dental patient parks around the Dental Hospital, other than mobility impaired car parks (for DCC permit owners). Paid carparks are available on the streets near the hospital, and there are parking buildings within a few blocks. Bus services are also available, with many routes stopping outside the Dunedin Public Hospital, a two-minute walk from the Dental Hospital.
If you are running late while looking for a park, call the Dental Hospital so your clinician is aware.
