The Faculty of Dentistry provides appointments to members of the community for a range of treatment needs.

Who is this available to

General dental treatment is available to people who live in the Otago catchment area, depending on current capacity.

Urgent treatment is available to anyone, depending on availability.

How do I make an appointment

To make an appointment, either:

  • Contact the Faculty of Dentistry 8:30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, for urgent appointments:
    Tel +64 3 479 8889
  • Seek a referral from a private dentist or contracted service
  • We can occasionally accept self-referral for some simple treatments, including Hygiene appointments - email dental.clinicaladministration@otago.ac.nz

If you are unsure, contact us by phone or email.

Existing Faculty of Dentistry patients may also be referred from one service discipline to another through a clinician-to-clinician referral.

Not all referrals, including self-referrals, are accepted.

If you are a new patient and your appointment is accepted, you will need to complete a patient enrolment form and health questionnaire before your first appointment.

How much does this cost

Treatment costs vary, depending on:

  • The treatment required
  • Whether you have a Community Services Card
  • The stage of training of the provider

Initial appointments begin between NZ$100 and NZ$215. Any additional costs will be discussed with you before treatment begins.
