In addition to method bins, departments on campus have recycling bins for glass, paper, and plastic and cans.
These bins have designated collection days:
- Blue bins containing glass recycling are collected weekly on Wednesday
- Paper is collected on the first and third Wednesday of every month
- Yellow bins containing plastic and cans are collected weekly on Wednesday
Yellow mixed-recycling bins follow the same rules as recycling method bins. If these bins are stored indoors, they must be taken to the designated collection point or kerbside before 7:00am on collection day (or the night before).
Cardboard recycling skips are available around the Dunedin campus and are emptied weekly. Custodial Services can also send a truck for bulk collection if required. All cardboard must be flattened, and food-contaminated cardboard (such as pizza boxes) is not accepted. Polystyrene can be recycled at 59 Clyde Street (old Wickliffe Press Building loading dock) for small quantities, or organised through a Property Services job request for large quantities.
Used and unwanted furniture can be removed and delivered to the used furniture store at 96 Anzac Avenue, where it can be reused or sold. Departments can request for furniture to be collected and made available for reuse.
The disposal of confidential documents depends on the requirements for how long information should be kept, according to the Public Records Act. There are several confidential document bins on campus; some bins are emptied on a regular schedule, while others require a request to be made to have these emptied, removed, or acquired.
Additional recycling services are available on campus, including dead battery collection, e-waste recycling for small loads, and printer cartidge recycling.
