There is no student health clinic on the University of Otago Wellington campus, so undergraduate health sciences, medical, and full-time on-campus postgraduate students are subsidised to attend GPs.
The Newtown Medical Centre and Central Wellington Medical Centre both have an agreement with the University to enrol any students.
For students who wish to enrol at Newtown Medical Centre, email the practice before attending to advise the practice that you wish to enrol and that you are a student at the University of Otago.
Any student making an appointment to see a GP should take both their University of Otago student ID card and their Community Services Card with them.
A subsidy of NZ$40 is provided. Any amount above NZ$40 must be paid by the student at the time of the appointment. Some practices may require a full payment, with reimbursement available later.
International students are not eligible for the subsidised scheme as they have medical insurance. They may be able use the above practices, but should check with them prior to attending and advise that they are an international student at the University of Otago, Wellington.
If there are any issues, or for information on other practices, contact the Co-ordinator, Student Experience (as below).

The above GP practices will send a confidential account to the University for reimbursement, up to a maximum of NZ$40.
Other GP practices will ask the student to pay the full amount of the consultation. In this case a reimbursement form should be filled in (available from Student Affairs or Co-ordinator, Student Experience) and NZ$40 will be reimbursed if the original receipt is presented.
