There is no student health clinic on the University of Otago Wellington campus, so undergraduate health sciences, medical, and full-time on-campus postgraduate students are subsidised to attend GPs.

The Newtown Medical Centre and Central Wellington Medical Centre both have an agreement with the University to enrol any students.

Any student making an appointment to see a GP should take both their University of Otago student ID card and their Community Services Card with them.

A subsidy of $40 is provided. Any amount above $40 must be paid by the student at the time of the appointment. Some practices may require a full payment, with reimbursement available later.

For further enquiries or for a reimbursement form:

Undergraduate students should contact the Student Affairs Coordinator:

Email uow.studentaffairsadmin@otago.ac.nz

Postgraduate students should contact the Coordinator, Student Experience:

Email postgrad.uow@otago.ac.nz

Student counselling is also available, providing confidential counselling for any worries or concerns you might experience.

The above GP practices will send a confidential account to the University for reimbursement, up to a maximum of $40.

Other GP practices will ask the student to pay the full amount of the consultation. In this case a reimbursement form should be filled in (available from Student Affairs or Coordinator Student Experience) and $40 will be reimbursed if the original receipt is presented.
