EchoVideo is a video streaming platform and capture software used to record and upload official University of Otago lectures and events.
Most courses will have lecture recordings available however, as per the Lecture Recording Policy, some may have exemptions. Courses that do provide lecture recordings will make these available through Aoroa | Brightspace, Blackboard, or Moodle.
Course co-ordinators or their delegated staff member can use EchoVideo to record lectures for official teaching papers, or events (activities that do not exist in the University central timetable e.g. seminars, symposiums etc.), and provide this recording to students in Aoroa | Brightspace, Blackboard, or Moodle.
To schedule your recordings for EchoVideo (including Personal Capture), log in to Otago Capture, request a Section, and choose the recording attributes for the specific events you want recorded.
Versions of EchoVideo Universal Capture software
Universal Capture Classroom (teaching venue computer software)
Universal Capture Classroom is software installed on teaching venue computers or dedicated Echo devices. These computers automatically capture audio (microphone), screen (projector), camera (presenter) and can live stream, if recordings have been scheduled using Otago Capture Administration to do so.
This option is suitable when teaching in a Capture-enabled lecture theatre or seminar room that has an echo device or computer set-up with Echo.
Universal Capture Personal (Personal Capture)
Universal Capture Personal (also known as Personal Capture) can be installed on your own computer. You can stream or record a lecture from your office using this software. Universal Capture Personal is available from Company Portal on Otago University computers and laptops
Universal Capture Personal is designed with an easy-to-use interface and can be used as an alternative to Universal Capture Classroom if you are not in a Capture-enabled venue. It enables you to create ad hoc recordings or impromptu lectures.

EchoVideo Universal Capture is available in most pool lecture theatres and teaching venues.
