The Level 5 Diploma, based at Pathway | Te Huarahi, is an innovative University of Otago programme which targets prospective students who have just missed University Entrance (UE) or would benefit from a supportive learning environment.
The Diploma in Arts (DipArts), Diploma in Commerce (DipCom), and Diploma in Science (DipSc) are open to both domestic and international students.
The diplomas combine Pathway NZQF Level 5 papers with first-year bachelor-level papers in the relevant subject area. They also incorporate mātauranga Māori and Pacific perspectives across all papers, supporting students to develop cultural context for continued study in Aotearoa New Zealand and future employment.
The programmes are designed to foster strong learning communities, enabling students to learn alongside their peers during the diploma year and transition together into further University study.
Successful completion of:
- The Diploma in Arts leads to the second year of the Bachelor of Arts (BA)
- The Diploma in Commerce leads to the second year of the Bachelor of Commerce (BCom)
- The Diploma in Science leads to the second year of the Bachelor of Science (BSc)
Each diploma is taught over two 12-week semesters plus an exam period, aligned with the University's academic year, with one intake per year starting in February.
Eligible students can apply for a DipArts, DipCom, or a DipSci through the eVision portal.
