Most mobile devices connect seamlessly with the University of Otago's wireless network, however some devices (entry-level models, less popular makes, and older devices) will not. The following lists outline the recommended mobile phones for use at the University. Please note that the University is unable to support the non-recommended models.

- Apple iPhone models compatible with iOS 26(2020 and onward models) — SE(3rd Gen), 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17
Note: Old iPhones 7, 8, XS and XR can still access UO-WIFI, but with no software update available, it is not recommended that you use these devices - Galaxy S series — S21, S22, S23, S24, S25, S26 (Include FE model)
- Galaxy Z series — Z Fold, Z Flip
- Galaxy A series — A26, A36, A56
- Galaxy X series — Xcover 7 Pro, Xcover 7

802.11 a/b/g/n 2.4GHz — Problematic phones which work very poorly with new Wi-Fi. These devices were released before 2013.
