Replacement degrees or diplomas are available on request where the original has been lost, stolen or damaged, or once a legal name change has been processed via eVision.

Who is this available to

Students who have studied at the University of Otago and who have lost, damaged or otherwise do not have access to a copy of their current degree or diploma, or who have had a legal name change. Replacement certificates can be sent internationally for additional shipping costs.

Eligibility for replacement due to name change

To request a replacement certificate due to name change, the name can be one of the following:

  • Registered birth name
  • Married or civil union name
  • Name on their New Zealand citizenship certificate
  • Name changed by deed poll or statutory declaration

The name displayed on a degree certificate cannot be an unregistered name, such as a nickname.

How do I request a replacement degree or diploma

To request a replacement degree or diploma certificate:

  1. Contact AskOtago.
  2. For name change only: you need to already have completed a name change request via eVision.
  3. Complete the application form you will subsequently receive, which will include a declaration you need to sign.
  4. Pay the associated fee of NZ$75 per qualification plus shipping charges (these are advised on the form).
  5. Return your original certificate to the University if it has been damaged.

How much does it cost

There is an associated fee of NZ$75 (plus charges for shipping) per qualification. DHL is used for all shipping outside of New Zealand.

When can I expect delivery

Requests for replacement certificates take four to six weeks to process.
