You can hire academic dress (regalia) through the graduation application process.
Who is this available to
Students enrolled at the University of Otago who have applied to graduate in the current year.
How do I hire academic regalia
To hire academic dress:
- Complete the regalia section of your graduation application once invited.
- Pay the amount owing through the eVision student portal.
For regalia required for photography, relatives, or graduands graduating in absentia, contact academic.dress@otago.ac.nz to arrange hire.
How much does it cost
Charges (inclusive of GST) for hiring academic dress:
- NZ$30 for a gown
- NZ$20 for a hood (and NZ$20 for each further hood, if hiring more than one)
- NZ$20 for a trencher or doctoral cap
You will select the regalia that you wish to hire and pay the associated charge by credit card within your eVision student portal. Ensure that you make your payment at least five weeks before your graduation ceremony.
When can I expect delivery
Information about collecting and returning your regalia, along with contact details for regalia conveners, will be emailed approximately six weeks before the graduation ceremony.

Outside of the graduation period, the Academic Dress Office's opening hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 12:00pm to 2:00pm.
