Hands-On at Otago showcases projects from Sciences, Health Sciences, Humanities, and Business during the secondary school summer holidays. These activities give insight into the work researchers are involved in and aim to inspire and encourage young New Zealanders to consider further study.

Who is this available to

High school students who are in Year 11 or Year 12 at the time of applying can apply to attend Hands-On at Otago.

How do I apply for Hands-On at Otago

When applications open, complete the Apply for Hands-On online form.

As part of your application, you will:

  1. Select your top five project preferences
  2. Prepare your supporting documentation, including:
    • Qualifications (such as NCEA, Cambridge, IB)
    • Details of extracurricular achievements or involvement, both school-related and outside of school
    • A personal statement outlining why you should be selected to attend Hands-On at Otago
  3. Arrange a signed endorsement from your principal or a teacher.
  4. Confirm that a parent or caregiver is prepared to provide consent.
