A full-time course at the University of Otago is generally between 54 and 72 points in any one semester or 108 and 144 points in any one year.
An 18-point paper usually works out to a minimum of 14 hours per paper per week which consists of formal contact time (lectures, tutorials, laboratories) and independent study (studying, revision, assignments, reading).
Most students take 108 to 126 points per year. If you wish to take more than this, you are encouraged to seek course advice prior to selecting your papers.
One paper (18-points) at Summer School is considered a full-time workload. Taking points above this is considered a heavy workload and requires additional approval.
If you are in your first year of study at the University, getting the workload right in your first semester is very important to a successful transition into university-level study.
