Uniprint offers binding of documents:
- Course materials such as lecture notes or handouts, so you can easily access them when you need to
- Wire or spiral binding – Uniprint can bind in plastic or wire in a range of colours. This option is commonly used for course materials and smaller documents that need to lie flat
- University of Otago thesis printing and binding
- Fastback binding – thermal tape binding for any sized document, with a variety of colours available. This is generally the preferred soft-binding method for theses, subject to supervisor or departmental guidelines
- Perfect or gluebound paperback binding – this binding works best for large documents and booklets
- Saddle binding – documents are bound using professional stapling in the middle. This type of binding is great for smaller documents. Note, for booklets the page count needs to be in multiples of four. i.e. 4, 8, 12, 16, etc.
- Case or edition binding – this durable option results in a hardcover book. This method is used for hard-bound theses and can take approximately two weeks to complete
Thesis printing and binding
Uniprint provides both soft binding and hard binding for University of Otago theses. The preferred format for submitting your thesis is as a PDF file. They are printed on 100gsm paper, unless otherwise requested.
Author declaration forms
A completed and signed Author declaration form must accompany your thesis submission for binding. Different forms apply for soft-bound and hard-bound (Master's and Doctoral) theses. For Doctoral soft-bound submissions, only one loose copy of the form is required, and students must submit four soft-bound copies of the thesis.
Collection and delivery
Uniprint recommends allowing up to 10 working days for thesis printing and binding. Hard-bound theses typically take around two weeks to complete.
Once your thesis is ready, you can collect it from Uniprint, arrange a courier delivery for an additional fee, or request delivery to a national or international address.
If you are not in Dunedin and someone is managing the binding process on your behalf, ensure they have the correct thesis order, your chosen binding style and colours, and payment details.
