If you have been offered a place on a postgraduate programme at the University of Otago and wish to defer, and the programme is a coursework master's or another taught postgraduate programme (certificate/diploma), this can be organised through AskOtago.

If you are offered a place for a research programme such as a research master's or doctorate, you will need to contact the relevant teaching department to discuss deferring your offer.

If you wish to defer an offer of place for a postgraduate programme:

Coursework master's/taught programme

  1. Contact AskOtago who will liaise with Admissions about your deferral.
  2. You will be advised about your next steps.

Research master's/doctorate

  1. Contact the relevant teaching department to find out if a deferral is possible.
  2. You will be advised about your next steps if a deferral of your offer of place is approved.
