Tuition fees must be paid in New Zealand dollars using any one of the following means:

  • Internet banking (NZ bank account holders)
  • Convera
  • Telegraphic transfer
  • Government student loan – StudyLink
  • Payment at AskOtago (Dunedin campus only)
  • Scholarship
  • Third party payments

You can pay your fees in part, so long as the total value (as indicated on your invoice) is paid by the due date. Fees cannot be paid in instalments throughout the year.

You will only be charged for the papers you are enrolled in. If you are a domestic student, you may wish to add your papers one semester at a time. If you are receiving living costs of a student allowance through Studylink while doing this, check with them in advance, as enrolling each semester may impact which financial assistance you are eligible for. Some courses are entirely pre-prescribed (such as the Health Sciences First Year programme). In these cases, you cannot enrol one semester at a time.

How do I pay tuition fees

To pay tuition fees through internet banking:

  1. Transfer funds from your bank account to the University of Otago bank account:
    • Bank and address: ANZ Bank New Zealand Limited, ANZ Auckland Branch, 203 Queen Street, PO Box 62, Auckland 1010, New Zealand
    • Bank Account Name: University of Otago
    • SWIFT Code: ANZBNZ22 (for payments outside New Zealand)
  2. Include your name and student ID number in the reference.
  3. For international bank transfers, use the first six digits of your bank account number as the clearing code.

The same details can be used for telegraphic transfer.

To make Convera payments:

  1. Go to the Convera website
  2. Complete the required information and follow the prompts to make payment.

You may also pay your fees in person at the AskOtago Central Hub on the Dunedin campus, located on the ground floor of the Central Library on the corner of Albany Street and Cumberland Street. Payment is available by EFTPOS or credit card. A 2% surcharge applies to all credit card payments.
