You can request an exemption from the Student Services Fee if you meet specific enrolment or study assistance criteria. In most cases, exemptions are applied automatically to your fee account.
Who is this available to
Students in the following groups are exempt from the Student Services Fee:
- Students enrolled in distance papers only
- Students enrolled in interest only papers and not eligible to sit degree examinations
- Staff members receiving staff study assistance
How do I request an exemption from the Student Services Fee
Most exemptions are processed automatically by Student Finance and applied directly to your fee account.
If you are requesting an exemption due to exceptional circumstances, or you are a secondary school student studying University of Otago papers while still at school:

- Include details of your circumstances in the email.
