The University's Wi-Fi, eduroam, also provides free and secure Wi-Fi in many places both nationally and internationally, by connecting through the app.

How do I access eduroam at another institution

Once connected correctly to eduroam at Otago, you can connect to other institutions who are part of eduroam.

It checks your identity with the University of Otago, then quickly connects you, saving you from logging in.

Usernames and passwords are not shared off campus.

How do I connect to eduroam at another institution, if I do not automatically connect

If you do not automatically connect to eduroam at another institution:

  1. Use the below authentication information, where necessary:
    SSID – eduroam
    Username – Your full University of Otago username
    Password – University of Otago password
    Wireless security type – WPA2-Enterprise (802.1X/EAP)
    Encryption type – AES-CCMP
    EAP type – PEAP
    Authentication protocol – MS-CHAP-V2
    Validate server certificate – DigiCert TLS RSA SHA256 2020 CA1
    Select "eduroam" as a wireless network option (SSID) on your mobile device or laptop.
  2. Sign in using your University of Otago username and password:
    • Staff: username@registry.otago.ac.nz e.g. doejo91p@registry.otago.ac.nz
    • Students: username@student.otago.ac.nz e.g. doej987@student.otago.ac.nz

If you still have problems accessing eduroam, contact IT services at the institution you are visiting, to make sure no local issues are affecting your connection.
