Your student email is your University of Otago-provided email account.

If you are a postgraduate student, you can request to set up a postgraduate email address. Postgraduate email addresses are an "alias" to your student email address. A postgraduate email address is usually in the form knownname.surname@postgrad.otago.ac.nz

You are not required to have a postgraduate email address. Although your email address looks different, you still log in using your usual student username and password to check and send your email. You will only be able to send or reply using your postgraduate address, but emails sent to your previous email address (username@student.otago.ac.nz) will still arrive in your inbox.

Your access to IT services will not be affected when you start using a postgraduate email address because your student username remains the same. Continue to use your student username to log in as you usually do.
