The University of Otago provides personal hygiene facilities for students, staff and visitors. These facilities are maintained and serviced by Custodial Services.

Facilities are available in most buildings, including:

  • Toilets and sinks with running water and soap
  • Hand drying options
  • Sanitary disposal bins in female and disabled toilets
  • Some facilities also contain showers and nappy bins
  • Women's, men's, all-gender, and disabled facilities are available on campus

A comprehensive cleaning of shower and toilet facilities is undertaken daily. This includes routine servicing of sanitary disposal bins, which are normally replaced every four weeks (or more frequently if required). Full sanitary bins can be reported and will be replaced within 48 hours.

Custodial Services is responsible for cleaning and maintaining hygiene facilities across all University campuses, including Dunedin, Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Invercargill. Cleaning work is primarily carried out after hours to minimise disruption to University activities.

Soap and hygiene consumables used in toilets and washrooms are supplied and restocked by Custodial Services as part of their standard service.
