Te Oraka is a student-run thrift shop and community space on the Dunedin campus. Set up as part of Tī Kōuka 2030: the Sustainability Strategic Framework, Te Oraka helps students live a more sustainable lifestyle through:

  • Donations and sales of second-hand clothing and flat items
  • E Rescue for usable computing equipment
  • Night markets and other events
  • "Bike Grabs" for accessing affordable pre-loved bikes
  • Workshops and craft clubs

Drop for Good

Drop For Good has two main components: a donation drop-off at the end of the academic year and a redistribution shop during Flatting O-Week or "Flo Week", when students move into their accommodation.

  • During the donation period, students can drop off unwanted items such as furniture and kitchenware. Volunteers assist with collections, and large-item pick-ups are available
  • All donated goods are stored at the Anzac Avenue drop-off point over summer, then "Shop for Good" resells these items during Flo Week at affordable prices so students can set up their flats without financial strain

E Rescue

Te Oraka partner with the e-waste Recycling Centre at the University to repurpose surplus computing equipment from University departments. Desktop computers, laptops, monitors and other peripherals are available to students and staff to buy at competitive prices for personal use.

E Rescue

Te Oraka is open Monday to Friday from 11am to 1pm, and closed on weekends. Bike Grabs are available during Tuesday hours.
