The University has Muslim prayer rooms on the top floor of the Union Building, and in the Scott Building, Faculty of Medicine. These rooms are specifically set up to face Mecca, and the Scott Building prayer room has washing facilities available.

There is also a prayer and meditation room for people of all faiths (or none) on the top floor of the Union Building. This room is for quiet prayer and meditation but can be booked for small group prayer sessions or Bible study.

How do I use a prayer room on the Dunedin campus

  1. All prayer rooms should be used respectfully. Be mindful and considerate of people using these shared spaces, and enter and exit quietly.
  2. Do not bring food or drink into the rooms.
  3. The rooms are not to be used for academic study.
  4. Email the chaplains with any questions: chaplains@otago.ac.nz
