An IRD number is your New Zealand tax number, similar to a social security number or a national identity number. It identifies you for all the tax-related events in your life, is unique to you, and you keep the same IRD number for life.

The University is required by the Tertiary Education Commission to collect the IRD numbers of students eligible for the Final Year Fees Free entitlement. Providing your IRD number is optional, but if you may be eligible for Final Year Fees Free, adding it will assist you in claiming Fees Free from IRD when you complete your degree.
