The University of Otago warmly welcomes older students, and there is no maximum age limit to study.

If you are a mature student beginning your study at the University of Otago, either for the first time in tertiary education or returning after a gap, there are specific resources available to help with orientation.

Student Academic Skills offer 1:1 consultations to help kickstart your studies. Topics of discussion can include:

  • Transitioning to University (what to expect)
  • Note-taking
  • Managing the first assignment
  • Balancing life and study

The Locals programme is designed for all first-year students who are living at home, renting (flatting), or boarding. Orientation Week events and the Locals HQ facilities help to create a welcoming space for mature students.
