Qwickly Attendance is an attendance management tool integrated with Aoroa. It is not used for all University of Otago papers. If your paper uses Qwickly, your lecturer or tutor will let you know.

Recording your attendance

When you arrive at your lecture, tutorial, or laboratory, follow the attendance tracking method provided by your instructor. This may include:

  • Barcode scanner: scan your student ID card
  • QR code: scan the QR code provided by your instructor
  • Roll call: your instructor may record your attendance manually
  • PIN code: enter the four-digit PIN provided by your educator. You can do this on desktop through Aoroa and Qwickly Attendance, or using the Brightspace Pulse app or Qwickly Attendance app

Once checked in, a green box with "Check in is successful" will appear in Aoroa.

Checking out

Some instructors may require you to check out when you leave. If check-out is required, use the same method you used to check in.

If you cannot check in

If you are unable to check in using your student ID card or the QR code, advise your instructor as soon as possible so they can manually update your attendance record.

Qwickly Attendance allows staff to record and manage student attendance using a range of attendance-taking methods, depending on the teaching activity and paper requirements.

  • Card Reader Mode: Students swipe, tap, or scan their student ID card using a connected card reader
  • Check-In Mode: Students record their own attendance using a PIN code, QR code, or another self-check-in method
  • List Mode: Staff mark attendance from a class list and assign an attendance status for each student
  • One-by-One Mode: Students are presented individually, allowing staff to record attendance one learner at a time
  • Seating Chart Mode: Staff record attendance using a visual classroom seating layout
  • Student Activity Mode: Attendance is recorded automatically based on student activity within the LMS or paper. This option may be suitable for online learning environments
  • Check-Out: An optional feature that can be used alongside attendance sessions to allow students to record when they leave a class or activity
