The University is committed to providing a safe and healthy place of work for staff, students and visitors.
The Health and Safety management structure supports and facilitates the development of health and safety policies, defines responsibilities and ensures open communication on health and safety issues.
The University uses the following resources to ensure the workplace is a safe and healthy environment:
- ACC accreditation allows the University, as an ACC-accredited employer, to act as an agent of ACC to manage workplace injuries and illnesses.
- Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are available in several locations on the Dunedin and Christchurch campuses.
- Departmental Health and Safety Officers (DHSO) provide support and expertise in health and safety. They are responsible for hazard identification and registers, staff inductions, and incident reporting.
- A smoke-free campus policy applies to all of the University's campuses.
- Workspace setup and ergonomics assessments can be provided by the occupational health nurse for University staff to ensure office equipment is correctly adjusted.
