The University of Otago offers scholarships, bursaries, grants, and awards to support undergraduate study across a wide range of programmes, backgrounds, and circumstances. Many of the scholarships are funded by private bodies or individuals and align with special areas of interest of the funder.
These may assist with tuition fees, living costs, accommodation, or discipline-specific study. Each scholarship has its own eligibility criteria, application process, regulations, and value, which can encompass a large or very specific subset of students.
You may be eligible for an undergraduate scholarship if you are one or more of:
- A school leaver or continuing undergraduate student
- Studying in a specific degree, major, or papers in a particular discipline
- Demonstrating particular academic merit, leadership, or community involvement
- Experiencing financial hardship or personal circumstances
- A member of a particular group that is under-represented or faces historical barriers to accessing education
- From particular regions or schools
- Excel in performance, creative, sporting, or leadership values
The value of each scholarship varies. You may receive a one-off grant or a scholarship that provides funding over several years, with amounts ranging from smaller awards to scholarships worth a large sum.
Each scholarship has its own closing date and application requirements. Some will require that you submit a separate application, however some may automatically assess you if you meet the eligibility criteria.
