The University of Otago offers entrance scholarships which can help pay for University study or residential accommodation expenses. Entrance scholarships are available for full-time, first-year undergraduate study and are designed to support students as they begin their university education.

Otago entrance scholarships recognise a wide range of achievement and circumstances, including academic excellence, leadership, ethnicity, financial hardship, disability, and excellence in sporting or cultural pursuits.

Applications open on 1 July each year. Closing dates vary, with many closing on 15 August. Your application must be received before 11:59pm on the relevant closing date to be considered.

Use of scholarship funds

If you are going to live in a residential college, your scholarship will help cover part or all of your accommodation costs. For international students, scholarship payments are normally credited to tuition fees.

Entrance scholarships cannot be used for payment or part-payment of residential college placement, entry, deposit, activity, or equivalent fees.

Entrance scholarship results

If you application is successful, you will receive one scholarship offer, and this offer will be for the highest scholarship the University has deemed fit to award.

For New Frontiers Scholarships, the University will make upgraded scholarship offers after final NCEA results are released.
