Upon graduation, you will receive your University of Otago degree or diploma certificate, along with your academic transcript. Certificates are only available once the degree or diploma is conferred at a graduation ceremony. After the ceremony, your certificate is uploaded as a certified digital document to the My eQuals portal, where it includes the official University of Otago seal.
Postgraduate certificates will be sent to you in the mail and digitally, as you do not attend the ceremony in person.
If your qualification was conferred at a graduation ceremony held after September 2017, you can access a certified digital copy of your certificate and transcript through My eQuals. A one-off fee of NZ$30 applies to access your digital documents in the My eQualds portal.
If your qualification was conferred prior to September 2017, you can contact the Graduation Office to enquire about having your certificate uploaded to My eQuals. In most cases, certificates can be uploaded on the same business day once the Graduation Office is contacted.
The size of the degree or diploma certificate is 25.2cm (height) x 34.7cm (length).
The inclusion of majors was approved by Council and included on degree certificates from May 2024. For degree certificates that were issued prior to May 2024, majors cannot be added after the degree has been conferred.
If your original certificate has been lost, damaged, or destroyed, you may request a hard-copy replacement. Replacement certificates are issued on current University of Otago parchment paper and may not be an exact duplicate of the original, but will include key details such as your name, qualification, and award date.
Replacement certificates cost NZ$75 per qualification (plus courier fees) and typically take four to six weeks to process. If a damaged certificate still exists, it must be returned to the University before a replacement can be issued.
