Tutorials are small group sessions led by a tutor for discussion and individual assistance.

Tutorials may include discussion of the lecture content and assessment. They may also include interaction with other students, presentations, and debate on themes and concepts related to your paper. Some tutorials are compulsory and some will be optional.

There are two types of tutorials:

  • Department tutorials – these are part of your paper and will show in your timetable. These may be a Terms requirement (needed to pass the paper), therefore it is strongly recommended that you attend these tutorials.
  • Supplementary tutorials – these are offered by the University of Otago to support your learning and are not compulsory. They may be provided by departments, Student Academic Skills, residential colleges, Locals, Disability Information and Support, Te Huka Mātauraka, or Pacific Islands Centre. The EQ (Socioeconomic Equity) Programme also runs supplementary tutorials for eligible HSFY students
