The University of Otago offers entrance pathways and English language programmes for students of all backgrounds, via Pathway | Te Huarahi and the English Language Centre | Te Puna o te Kī. The courses are targeted towards students who may not have gained University Entrance (UE) yet, and students who otherwise did not meet the entry requirements for study at the University.
- The Bridging programme is a six-week course designed to increase the chance of success in the Foundation Studies Certificate (FSC). Study will focus on subject areas that help students prepare for the FSC, and successful completion of the programme means that students have achieved a GPA of 6.5 and a C in Academic English. Conditional offers of place for the FSC require that students first successfully complete the Bridging programme. Unconditional offers are not required to attend a Bridging programme, but it is recommended.
- Diplomas in Arts, Commerce and Science are available through Pathway. The Diplomas are NZQF Level 5 qualifications. These are open to both international and domestic students. These diplomas allow direct progression into the second year of relevant Bachelor’s degree programmes.
- The English Language Centre offers several English language programmes for students of all skill levels, though the courses are more broadly aimed towards international students who may not meet the English language entry criteria or who would like to improve their English language skills before beginning their studies at the University.
- The Foundation Studies Certificate (FSC) is a university entrance qualification that can be completed within two 13-week semesters and is open to domestic and international students. This is a NZQF Level 4 qualification. It is the ideal pathway programme for students who do not meet University Entrance requirements, but who have a strong desire to achieve a university degree and seek a supportive environment to achieve that goal.
Classes are taught on campus, with students using the same facilities as University students.
