The University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT ANZ) is a computer-based admissions test required to be taken by all domestic Health Science First Year (HSFY) students and Graduate category applicants considering applying for Medicine.
A UCAT ANZ score is not required for applications to Medicine through the Alternative category or by international students in any category of admission.
- If you are a domestic applicant, you must have a UCAT ANZ result obtained in the year of your application and have achieved a score in all four of the UCAT sections at a threshold level determined annually by the Medical Admissions Committee
- If you reapply for Medicine in a later year, you will need to retake the UCAT ANZ in the year of your application. It is not possible to use a UCAT score from a previous year
From 2027, both domestic and international students applying for Medicine must sit the UCAT, unless they are a government sponsored Kuwaiti or Omani enrolled in Foundation in 2026. From 2028, all domestic and international students applying for Medicine must sit the UCAT.
As UCAT ANZ is run by Pearson (not the University of Otago) you will need to register directly through the UCAT ANZ website
If there are any issues with your registration, contact UCAT ANZ.
Students with special educational needs, disabilities or medical conditions can apply for access arrangements for the UCAT ANZ. Before your test can be booked, access arrangements must be applied for and approved.
If you experience difficulties during the test, notify the invigilator immediately by raising your hand. The University is unlikely to consider issues that were not assessed and accounted for by UCAT ANZ at the time of testing.
