Microsoft 365 is an online suite of applications which includes office productivity, email, file storage, collaboration tools, and other specialist applications. It also allows University of Otago staff and students to download Office applications (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) to both their work and their personally owned computers.

Staff and students have access to the following Microsoft 365 applications:

  • Microsoft Office tools: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Publisher
  • Microsoft Teams: a collaborative personal workspace that includes videoconferencing and instant messaging communication
  • OneDrive: two terabytes of online storage.

When using Microsoft applications, off-campus users will need to verify their identity using multifactor authentication.

Office 2016 for Mac is no longer supported and will need to be updated to the Microsoft 365 applications. University-owned Macs should be enrolled in JAMF, which will keep their Office applications up to date. Ask users to enrol any University-owned devices in JAMF, or update to Microsoft 365 (by downloading the installer from office.com) and refer requests for further assistance through to the relevant Desktop Support team for them to assist with the upgrade.
