The University of Otago residential colleges are located within a short distance of campus. First year students are invited to apply for a residential college through Te Puna as part of the University admission application process.

Who is this available to

Residential colleges are primarily available to prospective students in their first year of study.

Current University of Otago students can also apply for a second-year place, although spaces are limited.

The following groups are eligible to apply for selected residential colleges:

  • Pathway Te Huarahi programme students
  • Otago Polytechnic students
  • Tū Kahika students
  • Pacific Foundation Scholarship students

How do I apply for a residential college

First year students

First year students at the University of Otago are invited to apply for a residential college through Te Puna as part of the University admission application process.

Once you have started your application for study in eVision, you can access Te Puna

  1. Log in to eVision.
  2. Select Residential Colleges and Uni Flats under the My Details box.
  3. Select Login with personal email to access Te Puna.
  4. Reset your password by selecting Forgotten/Reset Password and follow the instructions in the email sent to you.

International students under the age of 18 can apply for any residential college.

Pathway, Tū Kahika, Pacific Foundation Scholarship, Otago Polytechnic, and second year University students

You can apply for a residential college through the Te Puna student accommodation portal:

  1. Go to the Te Puna student accommodation portal.
  2. Select Register in the top left-hand corner of the welcome screen.
  3. Follow the onscreen instructions to begin your application.

  • Pathway students can apply for any residential college
  • Otago Polytechnic students can apply for Salmond College only
  • Tū Kahika and Pacific Foundation Scholarship students can apply for Studholme College only

Further information

If you submit your application after the deadline, it is forwarded to your first preference college for consideration. If that college cannot make an offer, your application is forwarded to other colleges on your preference list that have vacancies. If no vacancies are available, your application is placed on the general waitlist.
