Computer labs on the University of Otago's campuses are equipped with computers to provide student and staff access to software and files. These rooms may be known as Computer Assisted Learning laboratories (CAL labs), or Computer Resource Rooms (CRR).
Many commonly used software applications are already installed on the computers. However, sometimes more software may be needed from the Apps at Otago applications streaming service – refer to the related article: Apps at Otago
Files need to be stored on OneDrive in Apps at Otago. If files are saved elsewhere, including on the H: Drive, they may be lost.
When you first launch an Apps at Otago remote application, the streaming session is created in the background. It may take some time for the first application to load. Subsequent applications will load significantly faster in the same session.
Course-specific software
If your course requires specific software, and it is not available on a computer in a computer lab, you can get this from Apps at Otago
Restricted software
Some software applications are not released for general use as they are licensed for teaching.
Access to restricted software requires proof of licence before it is allocated to students, staff, or course groups. A course co-ordinator will need to request these licences from ITS Software Procurement. Access and licences are removed annually, so will need to be requested each year.
