The University of Otago English Language Centre (Te Puna o te Kī) offers English language courses from elementary level to special programmes that meet the language requirements for undergraduate and postgraduate study at the University. The average class sizes range from 12–14 students, with a maximum of 18.

The English Language Centre is also a registered test centre for the:
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
- Occupational English Test (OET)
- Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) examinations
IELTS and TOEIC preparation classes are offered as part of the General English programme for students of an intermediate level or above.
