Apps at Otago allows students to stream software applications to their own laptop, computer, or phone from any location with an internet connection. Apps at Otago is also available on campus in computer labs, also known as computer-assisted learning labs (CAL labs) or computer resource rooms (CRRs), University of Otago libraries and at eStops.
Apps at Otago is currently not available on Android devices.
All current staff and students will automatically have access to Apps at Otago. Users with external University accounts for teaching and/or research will need to request access to Apps at Otago through AskOtago.
When you first launch an Apps at Otago remote application, the streaming session is created in the background. It may take some time for the first application to load. Subsequent applications will load significantly faster in the same session.
File storage
When you are connected to a remote application streaming, the session will sync to OneDrive (OneDrive – University of Otago), and all files you create or edit should be saved there. Files saved elsewhere may be lost.
Course-specific software
If courses require specific software, it is recommended that course-specific software be installed directly on the lab computers whenever possible, especially for large applications or classes. Installation can be requested by contacting AskOtago – allow 10 working days for the software to be installed.
Restricted software
Some software applications are limited to specific courses or user groups due to licensing conditions. If you require access to restricted software, you can use it through Apps at Otago.
To make restricted software available to students, staff, or course groups, a valid licence must be confirmed before access is set up. Course Co-ordinators can request licences from ITS Software Procurement and ask for the software to be made available in computer labs or through Apps at Otago by contacting AskOtago.
Access to restricted software and associated licences is reviewed and removed each year. To continue access, requests are submitted each year.
