The Proctor's Office is responsible for the safety of students and staff and maintaining a healthy learning environment for all. The University of Otago has had a Proctor for approximately 50 years, with the role evolving to support student wellbeing, campus safety, and appropriate conduct across the University.

The Proctors work closely with the police and local authorities in fostering the unique "town/gown" relationship in Dunedin as it relates to student behaviour. The Proctor's Office is also responsible for the security of and access to all University of Otago buildings.

Key services provided by the Proctor's Office include:

  • Campus Watch and Safety Patrol services
  • Door access and building security
  • University ID cards
  • Oversight of the University Code of Conduct
  • Advice and support on student behaviour, safety, and wellbeing concerns

The Proctor's Office, including Campus Watch and the Campus Cop, is located in the St David Street Lecture Theatre complex. All enquiries, questions, and requests for information and advice on all matters are welcome.
