The University of Otago takes the safety of its staff and students seriously. To make campuses a safe environment for all, the University manages a range of security processes and procedures and employs staff to enact these.
- Campus Watch provides assistance and advice on and around campus
- Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras operate to help take care of people and property; they are overseen by the Proctor’s Office in accordance with the Privacy Act
- Door access control systems are managed by the Proctor’s Office, and ID cards are required for after-hours use or restricted areas
- Emergency Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are available on campus
- Emergency phones are positioned around campus, and connect to Campus Watch 24/7 to call for help in any emergency
- Flat security checks can be carried out while students are away from their flats, to ensure the contents are safe and secure
- The Proctor’s Office is responsible for the safety of students and staff
- The Campus Watch Safety Patrol is available if you don’t feel comfortable walking home alone in the dark
