The University’s teaching timetable includes scheduled lectures, tutorials, and if relevant, laboratory sessions (labs).

  • Lectures are usually a 50-minute oral teaching session. Lecture times for each paper will show in a student’s timetable in eVision.
  • Preliminary lectures with introductory information are given for many Semester 1 and full-year papers, just before the start of Semester 1 each year.
  • Streaming for lectures, labs, and tutorials is where students in large classes are grouped into a specific timetable slot for each activity.
  • Summer School is in January and February each year, for intensive study.
  • Timetable clashes are when a student has two teaching events scheduled at the same time. Clashes are managed in different ways depending on the type and number.
  • Timetable occurrences include availability, start or end dates, full or part year status and more.
  • Tutorials are small group sessions led by a tutor for discussion and individual assistance. Some are compulsory and will show in the student’s timetable.
