Free Microsoft/Office 365 software
You don't need to buy Microsoft Office for your computer. As a student you are entitled to five Microsoft 365 (formerly known as Office 365) licences for personal use for the duration of your study. See the related article for information about how to download and install the software:
Free antivirus protection
It is a requirement of the University of Otago that all computers connecting to the network have a working, updated antivirus: All computers can get viruses, but a good antivirus software will keep your computer safe.
