The University of Otago has three examination periods each year, following the teaching periods in summer school, semester one and semester two.
- Academic integrity and misconduct are taken very seriously at the University.
- Alternative arrangements in final examinations are designed to assist students with impairments who may experience difficulty sitting exams under conventional circumstances.
- Final Examination Only (FEO) provides the opportunity to re-sit an examination for a paper the next time it is offered.
- Final examinations are a crucial element of academic evaluation. Scheduled near the end of each semester, these examinations assess students' understanding of course material.
- Final paper results can be viewed in eVision at specific points following the end of the examination period. The academic transcript in My eQuals is updated a few days after the results are available. Following the results, students may apply for a recount and view their examination script.
- A recount of results is a recheck of the marks counting towards a final result, but not a re-marking of examination scripts.
- Special consideration in final examinations is the process by which the University seeks to ensure just and equitable treatment of students who suffer unexpected and significant impairment (e.g. serious illness) in relation to assessment.
- Special examinations may be offered as an option if a student is granted special consideration in a final examination.
- Variation of final examination time or venue is only allowed in exceptional circumstances — students are expected to attend examinations on the scheduled date and time.
- Examination timetable scheduling begins after the last day to delete papers for that teaching period.
- Examination papers administration is managed by Student Administration.
